It's Valentine's Day! I made this special banner or card for my wife's website at http://prettyfirefly.com since she loves purple. She's more than what meets the eye. She's everything a man could ask for. As a woman, wife, mom and as a person. I suprised her with a dozen of pink roses. Yes pink since I tried looking for purple or lavender roses but I ran out of time. I actually told her, that I need to go to the bank and pay for my loan and have my haircut. Then I'll meet her at the mall in 30 minutes. I bought her favorite set of books. The complete Stephenie Meyer set of books. Twilight, Eclipse, Newmoon and the Breaking Dawn. Wow Philippines! More Than The Usual...

Since I cancelled my flight to Davao, I was stucked at home babysitting and browsing the net at the same time"trying to be productive." Hehehe... I'm trying to learn Photoshop actually. While I was browsing the net I bumped into this video. Man! I just love this video! I really want to share this with you guys. If you are Pinoy, you'll surely be proud that you get to explore and experience some of these, if you're not then I bit you'll love to visit and explore our 7,100+ islands to experience these. I've seen some of the things featured in this video like the Tarsier from the beautiful island of Bohol, gigantic malls in Manila, I've been to some of these places too, like Pearl Farm and the Philippine Eagle in Davao City. My home town. Of course I've been to so many beautiful white sand beaches here in Cebu, Bohol, Dumaguete and Davao. It made me realize I have'nt been to so many places yet. About 7 down 7,100 more islands I have'nt been yet. LOL! way to go! Have'nt been to Boracay or Palawan. Those places will surely be part of our itinerary this year.(with fingers crossed) For now I'll just enjoy this video with wishful thinking that I might fly my way to these beautiful wonders real soon. I'll be posting those photos I took from the places I've been and things and stuff I've discovered a long the way.

This brings back great childhood memories. When we were kids, my brother and I, we usual spend our summers at my grandmas house somewhere remote in Tagum. This is one thing we wouldn't wanna miss during those days... a carabao ride. This is a very common sight in the province but for kids like us, who grew up in the city, this is really something. As you can see we were like kids again. My brother couldn't wait for his turn. Just look at the sad look on his face. LOL! I had the chance to relive those memories again, when we had the chance to visit Eden Nature Park in Toril Davao City. The place is really cool. If you like taking pictures, hiking, fishing, trekking, swimming or just wanna relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. This is the palce to be in Davao. More of these real soon...

Despite the occasional rain showers, I can smell the summer breeze in the air. This was taken a couple of summers ago. It was in Pandanon island somewhere near the island of Bohol.

Looking at this picture makes me want to head to the beach. I just love the beach a lot, as much as I love taking pictures, you might have noticed I don't have much solo pictures. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't want it the other way really. Most of the time I'm busy taking pictures that I usually end up not having any pictures. For those who love to take pictures could relate to this. So this picture is really something... With the right settings and the perfect angle set, I actually ask a friend a favor to take this picture. I must say this was a good shot. Don't you think so? Well it's not as perfect as I want it to be, but it doesn't really matter. It's that sense of some sort of freedom and tranquility, everytime I look at this picture that really matters to me. If you're able to take a picture of that certain place and time, it brings that back that moment, that emotion, that certain state of mind when the picture was taken. Captured and printed on glossy or matte photo paper. How I wish sometimes I could just teleport and be where I wanna be in a snap, but i can't. No one can! The only power we have is to freeze time and capture that moment with a digital device called "camera'. Cease the moment. It might not happen again. I even heard of some people taking pictures of themselves while they are sad or crying. Would you?

Sinulog tips

Here are some helpful tips

1. Plan ahead. Where you wanna go, who you wanna go with,
if you're own your own or if your not from Cebu, make friends. There's no fun in partying alone.

2. Have a good rest the day before, try to recharge your body, so you will have every energy to celebrate Sinulog from dusk til dawn.

3. Bring just enough cash, 500 to 1000 will do and some loose coins depends on where you wanna go. It wouldn’t hurt if you have your ATM or at least 1 credit card, just in case.

4. If you want to witness the parade during the day, dont forget these...

1. bull cap or sun visor - trust me you'll thank me for this.
2. sunglasses or shades - unless you wanna squint all day long
3. towel or hanky - you will surely be sweating like a pig
4. bring your camera with a sling, so you may wear it around your neck and use your camera with caution. There's a lot of "predators" (read: pickpockets) that will surely take advantage of the situation.
5. A bottle of water you need to hydrate yourself to keep up.
6. Some finger food or biscuits or anything that you can munch on.
7. A belt bag or a small backpack to carry all essential stuff.

* don’t worry if you forget some of these or you don’t have any of these. There’s a lot of vendors selling them. They know you are not prepared or you’re simply too lazy to carry them with you.

5. Wear something comfortable. T-shirt and jeans or shorts, a cap or sun visor. Remember the sun will also be joining the celebration by day. He can be very harsh or scorching. LOL! The rain is never welcome on days like these, but just in case an umbrella would be you bestfriend. Rain or shine.

6. Don't drive your car or take a cab to get to your destination. Buy a map instead. All major routes downtown and uptown will be closed for the parade and street parties. Cebu is not really that big when you talk about land area. The best way to get there are your most comfortable pair of shoes or sandals or flip flops. I would recommend wearing shoes over sandals or flip flops for practical reasons; you have more chances of being stepped on and hurting your toes when your in a crowd who’s all eyes and all ears on the parade.

7. If you hate the sun or you’re simply too lazy to walk, then you might just wanna party at night. On this special day most bars and interesting places are open ‘til the sun takes over and make all the vampires disappear. I know exactly how that feels.

8. When you’re in a bar it’s best to pay the exact amount. A tip would be appreciated but not necessary.

9. Be polite and friendly. Cebuanos are really warm and friendly you can easy blend in the crowd just don’t forget to wear to your perfect smile.

Sinulog 2009! VIVA PIT SENYOR!

It's almost Sinulog again! How time flies! Sinulog festival is one of the grandest and most colorful festivals on this side of the planet. Held each year on the third Sunday of January in here in “Queen City of the South” Cebu City. This celebration is in honor of the Santo Niño. The Sto. Niño is not just an known icon but it's the patron saint of the city. This year Sinulog will be on January 18th. It is a grand festive dance ritual which celebrates the Filipino people’s pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity. In history (class) we were taught that it was the Spaniards who introduced us to Christianity, more than 300 years ago. I could not imagine things the other way. Things would have been different, for me it's just unthinkable. Sinulog features some of the country’s most colorful displays of parades and pageantries: participants garbed in bright-colored costumes dance to the rhythm of drums, trumpets, native gongs, cheers practically anything that makes around. Most of the participants will choose the prettiest lass wearing the most creative gown ( mostly made out of locally produces materials such as shells, flowers, native mat called “banig”, coco shells, etc..) to the carry the Sto. Niño and dance. The streets are usually lined with vendors selling all sorts of things like food, snacks, drinks, souvenirs, fans, towels, anything or everything that you might need while enjoying the parade or just simply enjoying the sights and sounds of this grand celebration. There’s also the fluvial parade held between the Cebu mainland and the island of Mactan. It’s as colorful and interesting but not as exciting as the Sinulog Mardi Gra. At night everywhere you go and everywhere you look, in all streets and corners of the city, people are partying, bar hopping, dancing and boozing around. It's a perfect day to party and get wasted. LOL! After the Holiday season this is something that people, not just from all over the country but from all over the world, come to Cebu to celebrate Sinulog.

Let's FLY!

Taken around 4 o'clock in the afternoon before landing Davao City International Airport in one of my trips to davao last year. I took a few shots but this was my perfect shot. I just love the sunset, when the horizon meets the vast sky bursting with vivid colors of the sun. So on your next trip to Davao or anywhere in the world, always ask to be seated right next to the window. Between rows 3 to 10 unless you want to take a shot of the sunset with one of the plane's wing or the tail on the other side.

My Top 10 New Year's Resolutions

Happy new year everyBUDDY! It's 2009! Another year, another long list of "New Year's Resolutions". I've been sitting here in my thinking chair, trying to reflect on this thought
"what would be my Top 10 New Year's Resolutions". I hope to keep my new year's resolution this time. This time I really mean it. I guess I told my self that last year and the year before last year. ahh... What a heck! As far as I could remember I always thought of this list but let me trim down to ten this time and hopefully this year I'll be able to stick with it. This is gonna be my 1st resolution this year to keep my new year's resolution. From now on " I won't be hoping about it, but i will do something about it". Putting things into action and not just planning, hoping, wishing and day-dreaming about it but to really do something about it.

2. I will spend more quality time with mah lil reese and my wife. my wife and I, we work on the same company, same shift, almost the same breaks as well. We hardly spend time apart but i wanted to make her feel how much I love, respect and care for her. I know I'm guilty sometimes about not making her feel special. I cook for her but i know it's never enough. It doesn't really matter how much time you spend with your love one but its how you make each other feel whenever your together. We are not the perfect couple, we are far from being perfect. We argue sometimes and we dont always agree on things, but at the end of the day we kiss and make up and make out sometimes. It's always better after a fight. LOL!

3. Work hard and play harder.

4. Get in touch with family and love ones.

5. This year I swear i'll be more organized.

6. Loss weight and stay healthy.

7. Getting things done on time. This is really hard.

8. I will try to save whenever I can.

9. Help and share with others.

10. Make more money! God knows how.

lil reese loves to "read"

we bought this big book when she was still 4 months old. its called the "the number zoo". we read to her as often as we can to encourage her to read and count at the same time, though we know she's still to young for that. the earlier the better. we just want to expose her to educational toys and spend quality them with her. my wife and I, we both have a day job but after a long day at the office, we just can't wait to see her. we make it a point to play, sing, dance and read to her. she loves it when we read to her. she giggles and drools for it everytime we show her the cover of her fave book and read to her. i'll be posting the pages of book soon. just the other day my wife lily taught her to flip the pages and she learn so fast she can flip the pages of her big book on her own now with a lil help.

Let’s fly to Davao City! My hometown. I’m a proud “Dabawenyo”. It’s not only known for it’s “taste like heaven smells like hell” durian, a wide variety of wild and rare orchids, the majestic Mt. Apo, the Lumads and white sand beaches and diving spots, it’s also known as the home for the Philippine Eagle. The Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi) is a giant forest raptor endemic to the Philippines. It is considered one of the largest and most powerful eagles in the world. Unfortunately, it is also one of the world's rarest and certainly among its most critical endangered species. It’s so ironic that these predators are actually helpless preys to ruthless and greedy hunters. The Center is home to 36 Philippine Eagles, 18 of which are captive-bred. It also houses other species of birds, 4 species of mammals and 2 species of reptiles. Simulating a tropical rain forest environment, the Center offers the visitor a glimpse into the country’s forest ecosystem. I liked the idea that they placed this eagle outside the cage so we may take pictures of the eagle without the very annoying wire cages. There's a leash attached to one of its legs, no need to panic or get scared that the eagle might eat you alive. They're called monkey-eating-eagles not human-eating-eagles, though science taught us that once upon a time our great, great, great, great grandpas and grandmas were monkeys. Although the exhibits are used primarily to help educate the Filipino people on conservation, the facility is also considered a major tourist attraction in Davao City. Let me tell you, you haven’t been to Davao City if you haven’t been to the Philippine Eagle Center. When it's cold and the weather is rather gloomy, I just can't help but think and paint the summer sun and white sand beaches on my mind. This shot was taken about 3 summers ago. This was in bato santander, south of Cebu City. The beach resort was called "Pebbles Beach Resort". As you can see the shore line is not made up of sand but pebbles. here's mah lil' faerie she was 2 months old when this photo was taken. after finishing her 2 ounces of ISOMIL, my baby is lactose intolerant, we put her to bed, tummy down and placed a teenie weenie pair of wings. i took several shots and in my opinion this is one of the best shots. hope you liked it. i'll be posting more of her pictures real soon. your comments will surely be appreciated. hope to hear from you.

Randy is my name Quina is my last name. I'm obviously new to this. I am from down south, the Durian City, my hometown, the city of Davao, Philippines. I’m working in a call center, not just your regular call center but “The Callcenter” here in Cebu City. How I got here is a long story, it will surely “bore you to death”. This is my personal website I mean “our” personal website, our own lil’ niche in cyberworld. This is all about us and everything else around us. Me, my wife lily and our baby named Sophia Reese. Our story, my story, her story, the people around us, the places we’ve been, the places we’ve never been and everything and anything under the sun or moon.

I love to travel and take pictures, eat and take pictures, swim and take pictures, make friends and take pictures, play with my baby and take pictures, frolic under the sun and dance under the moon and take pictures…what I haven’t done yet??? Makelove and take pictures. Hahaha… That would be very interesting! LOL! You should know by now that I’m really into photography. It’s an obsession… and yes I go to bed and sleep with my camera. I'm just a guy with a computer who likes to take pictures. I have a playful, immature and creative, trouble-making mind of a seven-year-old.

His future...

I want to put a business that has something to do with my obsessions and things that I love… Photography and traveling. Either a photo studio or a travel agency in the near future. I really want to show the world, that Philippines has more to offer.. experience 7,107 islands, the white sand beaches, diverse wildlife and the rich heritage, at the same time help preserved what we got and somehow lend a hand to some people in the country that are not as fortunate as I am. I don’t really consider myself as “ privileged” or someone from the upper class, it’s just that I feel fortunate enough that I enjoy life with the 3 basics needs to survive: food, shelter and a laptop with unlimited internet connection. What I’m really trying to say is that “I want to have something called “business” that would help me and my family sustain what we enjoy in this lifetime and somehow share it with others ”. With your help and HIS help this will be my future… our future…
